Control BK-5 Performance via MIDI #5425
We are trying to select performances stored on a USB thumb drive inserted in a BK-5 keyboard. We've tried a number of tests with various settings but haven't yet cracked the code to get it working. We found a post on another forum related to a Roland Juno with performances on a card. They said there is a MSB/LSB/PC combo that can make it work. We tried their two settings but neither worked. We also tried capturing raw MIDI data to the external device (iPad running the Bandhelper app) using the 'MIDI Learn' function, by (1) selecting MIDI learn on iPad/Bandhelper and (2) selected a performance on the BK-5. Data was captured and written to a MIDI preset in Bandhelper. When we put the preset in a Bandhelper Song and pressed play but nothing happened on the BK-5. Any ideas are appreciated!

The correct codes for selecting performances are available in the BK-7M manual, available on this site or from Roland.

The main thing is that you must first have the performance list selected. There are no midi codes available to change performance lists.

One thing you must remember, once you decide to use external midi to select performances, is that once you create the link and the code to call up the performance, you must not move the performance in the list ever again! Also, you cannot insert an entry earlier in the list. Basically, the code is a pointer to a number in the list, not to the performance by name. Therefore, if you re-order the list in any fashion whatsoever, the code is no longer pointing to the correct performance.

Due to this, it is impossible to have a performance list in alphabetical order. Each new performance creation must be put at the bottom of the list or you will mess up the order of the previous entries.
