Here is one of the floppies that won't open in preview. They are .STL and computer used "preview" so I changed it to iTunes, still wouldn't play. Couldn't use "garageband". Hope I inserted correctly.

Ruthie,

You can not use preview for these files, as they are Roland specific accompaniment files.

I explored the files on my PC with a binary editor and I could see the names as:

KF-90001.STL = OldCap10B-58
KF-90002.STL = YouSen10B-60
KF-90003.STL = SitRig10B-62
KF-90004.STL = AllHav10B-65

Roland E-80 V2.03 + SRX-06 + SR-G01, FC-7, PK-5, SC-8820 and EMU Xboard61.

Nicely done, Willem!

This seems to solve Ruthie's problem. I'm guessing you use a PC, Willem? I think Ruthie has a Mac, so here is how to do it on a Mac, Ruthie.

Select the file, and right-click on it.
Go to 'Open With'.
Select 'Other...'
Select TextEdit.

A whole page of gobbledegook will open up, but at the very top will be (for KF90002.STL, for instance) 'EVYouSen10B-60'.

Problem solved!

EV and G8 Styles

The first 2 bytes (characters) are giving the originating OS compatibility.
EV from the VA series e.o., G8 would be for the more common Arrangers.

EV styles which use specific features can give also unpredicted results on
Roland Arrangers using the G8 type Styles.

KF-90001.STL and KF-90003.STL give those unpredicted results on the E-80
especially when trying to edit them.

Thanks so much again!! If this works, then can I use the makeup tools, rename the style, then add it to my san disk or internal memory and the same with the Gold styles that Willken52 sent me? Tried to call Roland and, as usual, were busy and I gave up. Both u and Willken52 are really making me use my brain to make this work! LOL But....needless to say love the challenge.

Any clue what those 'unpredictable effects' are, Willem? Maybe we can come up with some sort of standardized fix...

If I remember correctly, the KF series was derived from the V/VA series arrangers. Other than Variphrase elements (which I don't believe the KF had), what other unique style elements could a VA style have to prevent it being played correctly in a G/E series arranger?

I certainly don't recall any issues trying to play V/VA series styles on my G70... It is one of Roland's best strengths, having few issues playing older styles even decades after they were made.

P.S. Sorry Willem52, kept putting your name in wrong.

No problem, Ruthie.

The unpredicted results on my E-80 were different, from sometimes a few seconds stop of a part,
to really crashing the Arranger O.S. when changing the drumset and/or saving the editted Style.

But still I have no clue what should cause it.

Tell me which style gives you a reproducible play error on your E80, Willem, and I'll test it in my G70 and BK-9.

Are you saying the file plays OK until you try to edit it? Or it just causes problems when playing it?
